Launched in Summer 2021, the app begins its journey with the interpretation of Cladh Hallan, a remarkable Bronze Age settlement located in South Uist. This site is particularly significant due to the discovery of some of the earliest known mummified bodies in Europe. Using advanced Augmented Reality (AR) technology, you can visualize the settlement as it appeared 3000 years ago, seamlessly integrated into today's landscape. Enjoy detailed 3D reconstructions that bring this internationally important site to life in ways never seen before.

About the Project

Uist Virtual Archaeology Project is a collaborative effort between Lews Castle College UHI and Comhairle nan Eilean Siar. Funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) administered by NatureScot, the National Lottery Heritage Fund (NLHF), and local partners including Stòras Uibhist, this project aims to enhance public awareness and accessibility of the region's unique heritage. Contributions from esteemed scholars at the University of Sheffield, University College London, and Cardiff University further enrich the app's content.
