About KFACS_ActiveAging

KFACS_ActiveAging is a comprehensive application designed to support the Korean Frailty and Aging Cohort Study (KFACS), focusing on bedridden elderly individuals and intervention research. This app serves as an essential tool for health administrators, healthcare professionals, and exercise experts who aim to monitor and improve the physical activity levels of older adults. By leveraging advanced technology, the app enables the collection and analysis of detailed data on daily physical activities, helping in the development of tailored exercise programs that are both effective and personalized.

The KFACS project is dedicated to conducting longitudinal studies on frailty among South Korean elderly populations. It aims to build a representative community-based cohort of older adults and conduct proactive tracking research to develop and validate interventions for frailty. This includes creating standardized guidelines for managing frailty in older adults. The ICT-based study within this project focuses on using technology to measure and analyze physical activity patterns and behavioral characteristics. The app plays a crucial role in this process by providing objective data through wearable devices, which can be monitored and analyzed via the application.

One of the key features of the KFACS_ActiveAging app is its ability to track and display physical activity data in various ways. Users can view their activity levels based on intensity—low, moderate, or high—and understand how long they engage in each type of activity throughout the day. This helps in identifying whether they are meeting recommended exercise guidelines. Additionally, the app provides visual representations of calorie expenditure over time, allowing users to see how their activities contribute to overall energy use. It also offers insights into daily, weekly, and monthly activity trends, making it easier to set and track fitness goals over time.

Another important aspect of the app is its customization capabilities. Based on the user's physical condition and health status, the app provides personalized exercise recommendations. These tailored programs ensure that each individual receives the most appropriate guidance for improving their mobility, strength, and overall well-being. Whether the user is a healthcare professional or a member of the general public, the app offers valuable tools for monitoring and enhancing physical activity levels.

This application was developed under the leadership of Hyuntae Park from the Department of Healthcare and Science at Dong-A University. The system has been supported by a grant from the Korea Health Technology R&D Project, administered by the Korea Health Industry Development Institute (KHIDI), funded by the Ministry of Health & Welfare, Republic of Korea (grant number: HI15C3153). Through this initiative, the KFACS_ActiveAging app continues to play a vital role in promoting active aging and improving the quality of life for older adults in South Korea.
