About Magazine Réalités
Magazine Réalités: A Beacon of Independence and Freedom
Réalités, a weekly newspaper founded in January 1979, stands out as a pivotal voice in the Maghreb region. As the flagship publication of the Maghreb Media group, Réalités has consistently upheld the values of freedom and independence since its inception. Over the years, it has faced numerous challenges, including suspensions, seizures, and legal battles, due to its unwavering commitment to these principles.
From 1987 to 2010, Réalités endured relentless political and financial pressures aimed at altering its editorial stance. Despite these adversities, the newspaper's team remained steadfast, ensuring that their content continued to reflect the truth without succumbing to external influences. Notable instances include the publication of Hichem Djaïet’s article on "Democracy and Counter-Power" in 1988, the exposé on Moncef Ben Ali’s involvement in drug trafficking titled "The Couscous Connection" in 1992, and Hédi Yahmed’s investigative piece on prisons in 2002, which led to the author being forced into exile. These events underscore the newspaper's resilience and the importance of its mission.
Post-revolution, Réalités emerged stronger and more credible than ever. Its dedication to maintaining independence and journalistic integrity has made it the go-to source for the Tunisian elite and international observers alike. The digital transformation with the launch of Réalités online in 2014 further expanded its reach, making it one of the most visited websites in Tunisia, particularly among younger audiences.
Our motto remains clear: the defense of freedom of expression, a cornerstone of the January 14 revolution. We continue to uphold this principle while adhering strictly to journalistic ethics. Réalités is not just a newspaper; it is a symbol of resilience and a guardian of truth.
