Unlike earlier texts that borrowed illustrations, Foxe’s illustrations were uniquely crafted to depict specific historical moments, linking England's struggles back to the early Christian era, covering the reign of King Henry VIII in the first volume, and extending through Queen Elizabeth I's reign in the second volume.
