Ownership History

The ownership of Bran Castle has changed hands multiple times throughout its history. In 1920, it became the official residence of the Kingdom of Romania and a beloved retreat for Queen Marie. After her death, it was inherited by her daughter, Princess Ileana. However, the castle was seized by the communist regime in 1948 following the expulsion of the royal family. In 2005, a special law was enacted to return confiscated properties, leading to the castle being handed over to Princess Ileana's son, Dominic von Habsburg, in 2006.
