"Twenty Four" (24) — A Math Game for Everyone!
Dive into the Fun and Educational World of "Twenty Four"!
DoDo, short for Double Dozen, is an engaging and educational card game based on the popular "Twenty Four" game from China and other regions with significant Chinese populations, such as Australia. The objective is straightforward: combine four numbers between 1 and 10 using basic arithmetic operations to achieve the sum of 24. The player who achieves this more frequently wins the game.
Unlike many other intellectually challenging card games, "Twenty Four" doesn't require players to remember hidden cards or develop complex strategies. Instead, it emphasizes rapid mental calculations, making it an excellent family activity that enhances arithmetic skills for children and offers fun for adults alike.
Interestingly, "DoDo" is also the name of the iconic dodo bird, a species native to Mauritius, east of Africa. These gentle creatures lived peacefully, feeding on fruits and nuts, until human settlers led them to extinction in the late 17th century. Fortunately, we have illustrations, descriptions, and even remains that provide insight into these fascinating creatures. Moreover, "DoDo" was also the nickname of renowned English mathematician and writer Charles L. Dodgson, better known by his pen name, Lewis Carroll. He created numerous mind-bending games, including variations of Scrabble and the still-popular Doublets. In his famous novel "Alice in Wonderland," the dodo bird symbolizes the author himself and invents games, much like Carroll did in real life.
Fast Thinking and Customizable Features
This version of "Twenty Four" challenges players to think quickly. Your score is determined not only by the number of puzzles you solve but also by the time taken to solve them. If a combination has no solution, recognizing this will earn you points as if you had solved the puzzle.
DoDo currently supports gameplay against the computer or another human player, with options for one or two decks of cards. It also includes a training mode without time constraints, allowing you to input your own combinations for the computer to solve.
Expanding the Game Experience
Various rule extensions are available to enhance the game's versatility. For instance, you can allow the Ace (One) to represent either one or eleven, increasing the variety of solvable combinations. Other options include common fractions, exponentiation, the "merge" operation, and the inclusion of a Zero card (Joker). You can even change the target number from 24 to another value!
DoDo offers a range of customizable features, such as presenting computer solutions as sequences of operations or expressions, choosing background textures and colors, replacing standard playing card images with numbers, and selecting different types of animations. Sound effects and custom background music, specified as albums or playlists, are also supported. Both portrait and landscape orientations are accommodated, and you can switch between them seamlessly.
Keep Track of Your Progress
DoDo allows you to save an unlimited number of games and maintains local score and achievement tables. Additionally, achievements and quick game results can be published on global tables via Google Play Services. The application is designed to work with any version of Android, with the "vintage" release for pre-Android 4.0 versions being free of limitations but lacking access to global tables.
