O Ajaib Bani

A Brief Life Sketch of Sant Ajaib Singh Ji

Early Spiritual Quest

Sant Ajaib Singh Ji's journey towards truth began at the tender age of five. During this quest, he encountered Baba Bishan Das, a revered sadhu who became his initial guide. Baba Bishan Das, a spiritual descendant of Baba Sri Chand and Guru Nanak’s son, played a pivotal role in shaping Sant Ji's life. His teachings in Surat Shabd Yoga prepared Sant Ajaib Singh for the significant destiny that awaited him. As a result, when Sant Ajaib Singh eventually met his ultimate guru, Sant Kirpal Singh of Delhi, he was well-prepared to seize the opportunities presented to him.

Naming and Early Influences

Baba Bishan Das not only mentored Sant Ajaib Singh but also changed his name from "Sardara Singh," which had an inauspicious connotation, to "Ajaib Singh," meaning "wonderful lion." The term "Ajaib" in Punjabi translates to "strangely wonderful," symbolizing the transformative power of his new mentor.

Military Service and Spiritual Encounters

During his military service, Sant Ajaib Singh's regiment was stationed near Beas in Punjab. Here, he had the privilege of meeting one of the greatest saints of his time, Baba Sawan Singh Ji, the guru of Sant Kirpal Singh. Recognizing the stature of Baba Sawan Singh, Sant Ajaib Singh sought initiation from him. Although initially denied, the encounter set the stage for future spiritual growth. The Great Master introduced him to Baba Somanath, another disciple who had been instrumental in spreading Sant Mat in South India. Despite limited subsequent interaction, both men continued their spiritual work, and after Baba Somanath's passing, many of his followers found solace under Sant Ajaib Singh's guidance.

Turning Point and Spiritual Journey

The meeting with Sant Kirpal Singh marked a pivotal moment in Sant Ajaib Singh's life. Everything leading up to this encounter and everything that followed was deeply influenced by it. His association with Baba Sawan Singh and his initiation from Baba Bishan Das were preparatory stages, culminating in the profound impact of Sant Kirpal Singh’s teachings. Sant Ajaib Singh spent the next two years meditating in an underground room in the ashram at Village 16PS, dedicating himself entirely to Surat Shabd Yoga. He emerged from deep meditation just days before Sant Kirpal Singh passed away in August 1974. Upon learning of his master's departure, Sant Ajaib Singh visited Sawan Ashram in Delhi to pay his respects, mourning the loss with deep sorrow.
