Beleaguered Castle Solitaire: A Classic Card Game with Multiple Variants

Overview

In Beleaguered Castle Solitaire, your objective is to build four foundation piles up by suit. The game begins with all the cards distributed across the tableau piles. Depending on the variant, the initial card may already be placed in the foundation piles. You can only move the top card from a tableau pile either to another tableau pile or to a foundation pile.

Game Variants

Beleaguered Castle

• Setup: Four Aces are removed and placed on the foundation piles. Each of the eight tableau piles starts with six cards.
• Rules: Cards can be moved down in any order within the tableau. An empty tableau pile can be filled with any card.

Citadel

• Setup: Similar to Beleaguered Castle, but cards that can be played directly to the foundations are placed there during the initial deal.
• Rules: Same as Beleaguered Castle.

Exiled Kings

• Setup: Similar to Citadel, but with a twist.
• Rules: Empty tableau piles can only be filled with a King.

Fortress

• Setup: Ten tableau piles, two with six cards and eight with five cards each. Foundation piles start with an Ace.
• Rules: Tableau piles can be built up or down by suit. Empty tableau piles can be filled with any card.

Streets and Alleys

• Setup: Eight tableau piles, four with six cards and four with seven cards each. Foundation piles start with an Ace.
• Rules: Tableau piles can be built down regardless of suit. Empty tableau piles can be filled with any card.

Chessboard

• Setup: Ten tableau piles, two with six cards and eight with five cards each. Players choose the rank of their foundation at the beginning, and other foundation piles must start with the same rank.
• Rules: Tableau piles can be built up or down by suit. Empty tableau piles can be filled with any card. Cards in the tableau or foundation piles wrap from King to Ace or Ace to King as needed.
