Technical Details

Height above mean sea level (AMSL) refers to the elevation or altitude of an object relative to the average sea level datum. Traditional GPS elevations consider the Earth as an ellipsoid, which can lead to discrepancies of up to 100 meters. In contrast, this application uses a geoid-based vertical datum, specifically the global EGM96 model, for more accurate measurements.

Altitude vertical accuracy is defined at 68% confidence, meaning there's a 68% probability that the true altitude lies within the estimated range.
