The Washington Air National Guard is structured into three key components: the 141st Air Refueling Wing based in Spokane, the 194th Regional Support Wing stationed at Camp Murray, and the Western Air Defense Sector located at Joint Base Lewis McChord. Each wing contributes uniquely to the Guard’s mission, providing cutting-edge capabilities that enhance national security and state emergency response efforts.

Formed as an official part of the U.S. Air Force in 1947, following the aerial triumphs of World War II, the Air National Guard continues to uphold its tradition of excellence. The Guard comprises citizen-airmen who balance civilian life with part-time military training near their homes. When called upon, these professionals stand ready to assist their communities and support the U.S. Air Force in safeguarding American airspace.

Currently, the Air National Guard plays an indispensable role within the U.S. Air Force, with a total force of approximately 99,916 personnel. Across the United States and its territories, over 140 Air National Guard units offer diverse service opportunities tailored to the needs of each Guardsman.
