Learning and Playing

While playing, Mahjong 4 Friends provides instructions in a bubble on the right-hand side of the screen. For those eager to learn more about rules and strategies, a comprehensive tutorial is available via a link from the app. Below are some summaries of the rules:

American Mahjong Rules (NMJL):

• Charleston Rounds:
  • One right, across, left charleston round (0-3 tiles left)
  • If all 4 players agree, one left, across, right charleston round (0-3 tiles right)
  • One charleston pass across (0-3 tiles)
• Winning Conditions: Mahjong when matching a combination on the card.
• Joker Usage: Jokers can only be used in matches of 3 or more tiles.
• Tile Swapping: Any player can swap a matching tile for exposed jokers.

Chinese/British/Hong Kong Rules:

• Winning Hand: 4 pongs/kongs and a pair are mahjong.
• Sequence Replacements: Sequences can replace a pong/kong.
• Optional Charleston: An optional charleston is provided.
• Customizable Rules: Mahjong and sequence limitations can be overridden to fit your preferences.

Game Setup and Customization

To start playing, follow these steps:

1. Open the App
2. Create a Game Room: Hit "Single Player" if you prefer to play alone and skip to step 5.
3. Invite Friends: Have friends join the game room.
4. Fill Remaining Spots: Fill any remaining spots with bots.
5. Configure Settings: Select either "Chinese", "American", or "Panama".
6. Start the Game!
