About Sound View Spectrum Analyzer

Sound You Can See! An Audio Spectrum Analyzer That Displays Sound Visually

Sound View is an innovative Audio Spectrum Analyzer application designed to provide a visual representation of audio signals. This app captures sound data from either the built-in microphone or an external microphone, and it presents the information in a dual-view format.

In the lower view, the input signal is displayed as a waveform, offering a clear visualization of the sound's amplitude over time. Meanwhile, the upper view showcases the spectrum analysis, with bars representing the strength of each frequency component within the input signal. The frequency range spans from 0 hertz up to 96,000 hertz (or 96K), contingent upon the device's capabilities. Typically, human hearing ranges between 20 to 20,000 hertz. The sample rate is twice the frequency range, so a sample rate of 48,000 samples per second allows for the display of frequencies from 0 to 24,000 hertz.

For a more focused view, users can double-tap either the spectrum bars or the waveform to toggle between a fullscreen display of just one view or both views simultaneously. This feature enhances the user experience by allowing for detailed examination of either the waveform or the spectrum. Additionally, both portrait and landscape modes are supported, providing flexibility based on user preference.

Interacting with the app is intuitive. A single tap on the screen reveals the Levels and Settings buttons. The Levels button enables users to adjust both vertical and horizontal magnification of the spectrum and waveform displays using slider controls. Furthermore, swiping on the spectrum display provides a dynamic way to explore specific frequencies. When zoomed in using the slider, swiping left or right allows users to control which frequency range is visible, making it easier to focus on particular aspects of the audio signal.

At the top of the display, a decibel meter is prominently featured. It indicates the signal strength in two ways: dBFS (Decibels Full Scale) and dBSPL (Decibels Sound Pressure Level). These metrics offer precise measurements of the audio intensity, aiding in accurate analysis.

With its comprehensive features and user-friendly interface, Sound View is an essential tool for anyone interested in exploring the visual representation of sound.
