Similarly, if the penguin is left unattended with the fish, the penguin will devour the fish. Fortunately, the gnu has no interest in eating fish, which provides a small window of opportunity to maneuver safely. To progress through the game, you must touch an animal to move it on or off the boat. When an animal is removed from the boat, it automatically moves to the bank where the boat is currently docked.

Navigating the river requires strategic thinking and multiple steps. To shift the boat between banks, simply touch the arrows provided. Each time you move the boat, it counts as a single game move. If you wish to expedite the process, you can tap the screen while the boat is in motion to make it skip directly to the other side. The simplicity of the controls belies the complexity of the puzzles, making "The River" both accessible and challenging for players of all ages.
