Beta Mode vs. Distribution Mode
Differences between Pgyer's Beta Mode and Distribution Mode, when to use each, and how to apply for Distribution Mode.
Pgyer apps operate in one of two modes: Beta Mode or Distribution Mode. Beta Mode is the default after upload and suits small-scale internal testing. Distribution Mode supports larger betas or staged rollouts, and requires a manual review to enable.
Comparing the Two
| Attribute | Beta Mode | Distribution Mode |
|---|---|---|
| Download cap | 500 downloads/day per version | Unlimited |
| How to enable | On by default after upload | Submit materials for manual review |
| Use case | Internal team or narrow testing | Broader beta, staged rollout, external distribution |
| Cost | Free | Free once approved |
The install method (public, password, invite) is configured separately in App Settings and isn't tied to the mode. Beta Mode typically pairs with password or invite install to gate the test audience; Distribution Mode more often uses public install for easy QR-code distribution.
Applying for Distribution Mode
- After uploading, go to the app's Overview page.
- Click Apply for Distribution in the banner at the top to open the submission form.
- Fill in and submit the following:
- App description;
- Full screenshots illustrating the app's core features;
- A test account (if login is required);
- Business credentials matching the app's industry — business license, software copyright, ICP license, Online Cultural Operating License, etc.
Review and Activation
Once submitted, the Pgyer team reviews the app and materials manually. You'll hear back by SMS and email within three business hours. On approval, the app automatically switches to Distribution Mode and download caps are lifted.
If the Review Fails
If your submission is rejected, the reason will be in the site notification, SMS, or email. Revise the materials and resubmit. Common rejection reasons and detailed explanations are in the appeals, reports, and review FAQ.
